For this project, I wanted to experiment more with using misc. pieces of technology. When I had gone to a local second hand art supply store, I came across this calculator. I really like the color pallette even though it reminded me of poo and pee (pardon my lack of better words) when I first saw it, but it was pretty fun experimenting with my scraps of fabric and trims and seeing what worked and what didn't.
Taking apart the calculator was a lot of fun and seeing what exactly I'll be working with. I was expecting to find a green circuit board underneath, but lone and behold it was brown! I've never really seen circuit boards in any other colors besides green, blue, or black so this was a pleasant surprise. Since most of the pieces of the calculator is brown I thought I'd go with a basic brown palette for the fabrics to mimic the original casing. As for trims, I just played around with what I had on hand in my scraps. Some of these scraps come from previous projects I've worked on years before, some I've found or bought second hand, and a few are scraps from when I altered a skirt.
The longest part of this project has got to be cutting up the circuit boards into crosses (a hobby knife and a dream...). I ended up snapping a bit of the end of one of the crosses so I fixed it up with some loctite super glue and layered on a top coating meant for nail polish.
Insted of just having the circuit board crosses be at the sides, I thought I should add a little something to them so I decided to go with some left over charms. At first I was going to use a white ribbon for the bow and the sides, but I found this champagne colored ribbon (with what I assume to be a mix of organza and satin) and thought that the shine of it reminds me of electricity running down wires or that it would sort've mimic electric sparks when in the light. I also thought that the ribbon compliments well with the yellow keycaps (which the keycaps are also pressable!).
I had a lot of fun creating this project and I can't wait to experiment with even more technology scraps for my future projects! I have a bunch of misc. tech and sewing scraps that I want to combine so please look forward to seeing those soon :3
Lastly, here's the advert I recorded and edited within a day just to showcase the calc headdress (I have it on the home page, but I'm putting here again).
